Set of three surcharged stamps with a soft, black, hand stamped overprint. The left hand characters show the surcharge and on the right Temporary Use. Character size 4.5mm.

This set is almost identical to that above except that the characters are larger. It may be that one overprinting tool was insufficient for the demand in this large town, leading to another set being made, this time with a character size of 5.5mm.

  10Y on 5f   10Y on 5f
This surcharge set is easily recognised because the red communist star is used to obliterate the orchid emblem of Manchukuo. Below the star the surcharge is shown on the left with the characters 作 meaning temporary use on the right.

This is a set of four stamps and one card with Mukden Type overprints identified as belonging to Antung by Dr George T. Luzitano. Kerr failed to make this connection and no overprints of this type are listed in his books.

This is a set of 12 stamps with Mukden Type overprints identified as belonging to Antung by Dr George T. Luzitano. Mr Shui-Hon Chan also links the set to this town.

These stamps have been identified by using Volume II of the Stamp Catalogue of China by Shui-Hon Chan and the four booklet guide The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7 by Allen D Kerr (published 1978 and now out of print). Both works are essential for anyone delving seriously into this subject.
