Note - It is my view that the stamps listed for Chao Yang Chen, Hai lung and Pan Shih are identical. Hai Lung and Pan Shih are villages on either side of the town of Chao Yang Chen (now Chaoyang 朝阳- see map). I believe that Kerr and others have overcomplicated these issues as it seems likely to me that the stamps were purchased in the town, but posted in the nearby villages. This would account for the existence of the postmarked covers with similar overprints.

Chan lists Chao Yang Chen as Chao Yang Tsuen, he shows no stamps and describes it as "status unknown", the stamps shown below come from a 1948 collection and I suspect the stamps are a legitimate issue from that period.

Kerr lists the first four stamps shown above but not the 40f. This appears to be a hard red machine overprint, unlike the black shown above. The top four characters read 中華民國 Chinese Republic and below these the surcharge.

Above are the only overprints known for this town.

These stamps have been identified by using Volume II of the Stamp Catalogue of China by Shui-Hon Chan and the four booklet guide The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7 by Allen D Kerr (published 1978 and now out of print). Both works are essential for anyone delving seriously into this subject.
