	Special Cancellations used in Manchukuo


	Issued 23rd August 1938. This example was issued in 満洲里 Manchouli. Design features - A signpost pointing to Russia (C.C.C.P. Союз Советских Социалистических Республик) in one direction and Manchuria in the other. There is also an orchid to symbolise Manchukuo and a Russian Orthodox church for Russia. The year date appears to be Japanese 13 = 1938, the 1f postcard would have been in use at that time. Size 38mm dia. Known colours - red	Issued 20th March 1941. This cancel was only issued in 哈爾濱中央 Harbin Central. Chinese: 哈爾濱中央放送局落成紀念 Chungyang Fangsungchu Luocheng Chinien (Zhōngyāng Fàngsòngjú Luòchéng Jìniàn) = Harbin commemorate the completion of the Central Broadcasting Bureau Japanese: Harupin Chūōhōsōkyoku rakusei kinen = Completion of the Harbin Central Radio Station (放送局 hōsōkyoku = lit. “broadcasting office”; 中央放送局 Chūōhōsōkyoku= central radio station; 落成 rakusei=completion). Design features - an image of the radio station building. Size 50mm Dia. Known colours - red


	Undated but probably Issued in 1944 No Post Office shown. The characters read 必勝儲金 Certain Victory Savings. These savings bonds were first issued in 1944 and were available from post offices in Manchukuo, costing between 1 and 10 yuan. Size 35mm x 83mm. Known colours - deep violet	Undated. No Post Office Shown. Chinese: 大東亜建設郵政儲金 Dà dōng yà jiànshè yóuzhèng chú jīn / Great East Asia Construction Postal Savings. Japanese: (Right side): 大東亜 Daitōa (Great East Asia) 建設 Kensetsu / construction, (Left side): 郵政 Yūsei / postal 儲金chokin/savings. Design features - a very large cancel with a map of Asia. Size 60mm dia. Known colours - red


	Undated but probably Issued December 1942 No Post Office shown. The characters read 大東亜戰一周年紀念 Great(er) East Asia war, one full year. The first anniversary of the war being December 1942. The cream coloured 3f slogan card used was issued in September 1942. Size 20mm x 44mm. Known colours - deep violet	Issued 1st February 1944. This example was issued in 哈爾濱中央 Harbin Central P.O. The characters read 戰捷祈願神前儲金 Chinese: Chanchieh Chiyuan Shenchien Chuchin (zhàn jié qíyuàn shénqián chǔjīn) and in Japanese: Senshō Kigan Shinzen Chokin. Meaning Victory Prayer Savings. 戰捷 Senshō / Victory; 祈願 Kigan / prayer ; 神前 shinzen / prayer before an alter or before god; 儲金 Chokin/ savings. Design features - a shrine and 3 aircraft. Size 38mm Dia. Known colours - red


	The 3f slogan card indicates this would have been issued between Sept 1942 and April 1944. This example was issued in 瀋陽 Shenyang (Mukden) The characters written across the wings of the aircraft read 大東亜戰爭宣戰紀念 Commemorating the Declaration of the Great(er) East Asia War the four larger characters 國防儲金 read National Defence Savings. Design features - the Japanese navy and Air-force. Size 44mm dia. Known colours - deep violet	Undated but probably Issued in 1944 This example was issued in 鞍山 Anshan. The characters read 戰捷祈願神前儲金 Chinese: Chanchieh Chiyuan Shenchien Chuchin (zhàn jié qíyuàn shénqián chǔjīn) and in Japanese: Senshō Kigan Shinzen Chokin. Meaning Victory Prayer Savings. 戰捷 Senshō / Victory; 祈願 Kigan / prayer ; 神前 shinzen / prayer before an alter or before god; 儲金 Chokin/ savings. Design features - the Japanese navy and Air-force. Size 45mm x 56mm. Known colours - red


	Issued on 2nd May 1942 or 2nd May 1943 The cancel is in the shape of an artillery shell and the inscription reads - Imperial Edict Reverently Accepted. Day Savings. Based on postage rates, a 3f card would indicate that the cancel appeared between March 1942 and March 1944. The famous Imperial Edict "One Virtue, One Spirit" was issued on 2nd May 1935 so I am guessing this cancel was linked to the edicts 7th or 8th anniversary. Size 10mm x 40mm tall. Known colours - reddish brown.	Probably issued on 1st May 1943 No town name shown. The above logo is in the shape of a badge at the base of which are beans or gourds of some sort. The inscription reads "Tenth Anniversary of the Founding of the State - Postal Savings". The central logo, specially designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the state, first appeared in Zirkle 60, this was issued on 1st March 1942. However we know that Postal Savings did not begin until 1st May 1933 (see Zirkle 79) making the re-use of this logo an odd choice, although the emblem does represent a stylised character "十" meaning 10. Size 49mm x 53mm (to point). Known colours - violet.


	Issued in September 1932. This is a 關東軍 Kwantung Army, cachet (bottom three characters) The message enclosed within the two artillery shells reads 満洲事変 - 出軌記念 Manchurian Incident Marching Out Commemoration. Size 82mm diameter. Known colours - violet.
