Plate Varieties Helen Zirkle listed 18 consistent plate varieties in her book which she numbered "a" to "r". Dr Y. Mishima was able to study the plate used in the manufacture of this stamp and has confirmed that all these defects appear. Many or these varieties are very minor and hard to see. Having access to a complete sheet it is now possible to confirm her work and to show pictures of each variety listed in the order in which each stamp appears on the sheet. |

| a. Broken Petal Variety - The top right hand petal of the emblem has a small break. This occurs only on the 3rd stamp on each sheet. | b. Spot Below Orchid Variety - A very small faint spot appears below the orchid emblem. This occurs only on the 7th stamp on each sheet. | |||||
